Biography

Yuying Tong is the Professor of Sociology at The Chinese University of Hong Kong, which she joined the faculty in 2008 and was promoted to full professorship in 2020. She co-directs the Centre for Chinese Family Studies and is also the Associate Dean (Research). Her work spans social demography, migration, family and life course, gender, and population health. Current projects examine how migration redistributes inequality across individuals and households, and determinants and consequences of family change in East Asia. She received CUHK’s Research Excellence Award and serves as Deputy Editor of the Journal of Marriage and Family and Associate Editor of Social Science Research.
