Biography
Dr. Sopuruchi Aboh is an early-career applied linguist with a research focus on world Englishes, discourse analysis, language attitudes, migration linguistics, and sociolinguistic dynamics of African and Nigerian contexts. He is currently working as an RGC Junior Research Fellow at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU), where he leads research on African migrant communities in Hong Kong. With a PhD in Applied Linguistics, he explores how language shapes identity, mediates marginalisation (e.g., ethnic othering in electoral discourse), and supports migrant integration, while championing the preservation of endangered languages. He recently won the Outstanding PhD Thesis Award (Non-STEM category).
