Biography

Professor Anderson Ho Cheung Shum is Founding Director and Co-Director of the Advanced Biomedical Instrumentation Centre and President of the Hong Kong Young Academy of Sciences. He received his Ph.D. and S.M. degrees in Applied Physics from Harvard University and B.S.E. degree (summa cum laude) in Chemical Engineering from Princeton University. His research covers aqueous two-phase systems, emulsions, biomicrofluidics, biomedical engineering, coacervates and soft matter. He is Associate Editor for Lab on a Chip and has received awards including the Pioneers of Miniaturisation Lectureship (2025), RGC Senior Research Fellow Scheme (2024), and the Croucher Senior Research Fellowship (2020).
